Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) is a digital database containing all the official chart information, standardised as to content, structure and format, issued by the authority of government authorised Hydrographic Office, for use with Electronic Chart Data Display and Information System (ECDIS), necessary for safe navigation, and may contain supplementary information in addition to that contained in the paper chart, such as sailing directions, which may consider necessary for safe navigation.

When interfaced with navigational sensors such as GPS, Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (ARPA) and echo sounder, the ECDIS can display real-time ship position in relation to land, charted object and submerge dangers as well as early grounding and collision warnings. It is also capable of carrying out route planning and route monitoring.
